Dumpster Overfill?

Can someone shed some light on what happened here? Was the dumpster overfilled, or did Waste Management miss a few things? This went down behind "R" building.

Apparently the dumpster area was full of trash and the dumpster had been pushed into the road way. Waste Management was called but the dumpster was just pushed back into its enclosure with all the trash still in there. I theorize that a homeowner pushed the dumpster back to avoid an accident but we're not sure. Can someone give some info?

This is where we need community support & not expect some one to take care of something for us. We all need to take responsibility to make this a better place. It is trash truck driver's job to empty the dumpsters, not fill them up. My guess is the driver emptied the dumpster but could not put it back due to the excess trash in the area. I noticed this too and was going to clean it up myself just to help out but I did not get a chance to clean it up before I went out of town for the weekend. I do not generally make it to that side of the community while walking my dog, but if it was something I saw every day I would clean it up. Let's be neighborly and help one another out.

Even more so, we should never let it get to this point, if its full find another dumpster.

something i've noticed is that dumpster will not fit in that space unless it is nearly empty. as we can see from the picture, the space was not nearly empty.

while it is absolutely right to say that if the dumpster is full to not use it (i 100% agree with that), if it is so full that when Waste Management arrives and attempts to pull the dumpster out (which they shouldn't) and the trash spills out in that process, is that on us to clean up, or WM?

It would surprise me if, in between the time the dumpster was pulled out, emptied, and set back down on the ground (that doesn't take too long), there was a rush of people and filled that area with all that trash so that the WM worker couldn't put the dumpster back in.

But yeah, really just wondering, if we do it, we should clean it up, but if WM does it..........? (that's not to say they did, and it's already been taken care of and all, but just in case it happens again...*knock on wood*)

also, on a side note, it's good that rowdy, antisocial teens didn't see/act on this...one "accidental" push and a couple people could've been making calls to their insurance companies.

probably not the best decision to just leave it there with, what looks like a piece of concrete blocking one wheel...

sorry for triple posting...just to complain...i just reread the article again and it was said that the trash is still there in the container area with the dumpster pushed in on top of the trash??? is that confirmed? if so, what kind of short-sighted decision was that? *sigh*

OTL <-guy on hands and knees hanging head in depair...

firefly,

I'm not too sure if the trash has been removed, this is second hand information which I received from another resident. I'm on the other side of the community so I don't pass by this dumpster much can someone verify if its still filled with garbage?

i can check when I get back today. if no one posts before i do, i'll let you know.

okay, so i checked I didn't see any trash, so that was somewhat reassuring. had a small scare there...

Hello, fireflyserenityfan in answer to your question, WM is only suppose to dump the trash, and if they can't push it back because the enclosure has been just packed with trash it is left out so that the mess can be cleaned up. The other choice is that, it is not dumped and we are charged $35.00 for them to return. The problem for MV has been, we are not sure who is suppose to clean the areas. Result..... sits for a day, and your right it could have caused damage. Hopefully that sheds some light on the subject! Thanks

Thanks for the reply anonymous...if that's your real name! =) j/k

I totally understand that aspect of WM's procedure, as that is something that I have dealt with at my work as well.

My question though is, how long does it take for the dumpster to be rolled out, raised, lowered, and pushed back into it's enclosure? As you can see from the picture...that's a LOT of trash, and as I've said before, I would be incredibly surprised if during that period of WM emptying the dumpster, people dumped that much trash there. And to say that the enclosure had that much trash in it WITH the dumpster in there would be hard for me to believe, as the dumpster fits very snugly in there.

While I know what they say about this word, I am assuming...yes, assuming, that the dumpster was too full (that's totally our fault), but that while the WM worker was pulling the dumpster out of the enclosure, trash spilled out...again, it's hard to picture a mob of people rushing THAT trash enclosure and dumping that much trash in the time it takes to empty the dumpster.

But I think that I've said too much about this topic already, so I'll just keep an eye out for a response, but don't worry. I won't post anymore about this. It no longer looks like that, with the new signs, I assume all will be okay...

...yes...assume...

Hello...Fireflyserenityfan, your right that bin was overloaded the day of the Cinco De Mayo party, and I know that some trash was taken over to the next dumpster. But, the problem seems to be that "OTHERS" not wanting to walk a few feet to another dumpster, just dumped.. and when the driver pulled out to dump the stuff that had been just stacked on the sides and maybe even some over the top comes off.

Hopefully it is taken care of now. There were 4 bins in the community that were switched out to bins with NO LIDS, for the very reason you mentioned that we had to leave the lids open, because trash was being just dropped on top of bin, so when the driver left the lids open, but the enclosures were built years ago and were small and made a very tight fit.

Ok.. enough trashy talk.. I will get a name.. but hmmm Trashy woman is not a good one. Will have to think of one. :)

And Sarah and Joe and Adam, Adriana, and others, thanks for all you guys do to make this a better place!
