Oh No....More Laundry Woes!!!

NOT AGAIN!!! This is just getting out of hand, washers and dryers are going doing again. COIN MACH must suffer for this not us. Let's get them out of here already. DAMN THIS ISSUE WASN'T HARDLY TOUCHED AT OUR LAST MEETING. CHARITY SAID THAT IT WOULD BE TOO EXPENSIVE TO HAVE AN ATTORNEY REVIEW THE CONTRACT IN ORDER TO TELL US IF WE SHOULD PURSUE LEGAL ACTION. WELL I SAY FORGET THAT!

I'm sure if the Budget Committee reviewed it we would most certainly find out that we could pursue legal action against Coin Mach. EVERYDAY THAT GOES BY IT SEEMS THAT OUR PROPERTY MANAGEMENT COMPANY IS DOING LESS AND LESS FOR US, THIS BEING ONE OF THE ISSUES THAT DRIVES MY OPINION ABOUT THEM. Please report the machines to Coin Mach because us harassing them is the only way were going to get them out.

BUDGET COMMITTEE PLEASE REVIEW THE CONTACT FOR THE GOOD OF M.V.

I'd like to know a little more about Pepe's Towing is anyone has experiences with them please let me hear about it.

I did my laundry yesterday and there are about six washers out of order and about five dryers. (Thanks to whoever left the post-its in the room.) Completely unacceptable service level. Everybody needs to be either emailing or calling them. In case you want it, their phone number is 877-COINMACH (877-264-6622). I like the satisfaction of talking to a person and getting a confirmation number. That way they can't say they never received our requests.

i've towed and towed with pepe's before and they are by far the nicest people i have ever experienced. i am the person who tows if you park in any handicap spot on this property if you have no placard. what else can be said? they dont damage cars while doing it like most places!

You are welcome for putting the post it notes in the laundry room. I've been wanting to put some pad and paper in there for weeks now... I finally had enough of this and put them there.

This laundry situation is getting rediculous. How's this for a proposal...?

The board / association buys all new washers and dryers for the laundry rooms and lets them operate for free. Each unit will receive a key for the laundry rooms just like the fitness center and pool area. This way, we won't have any non-residents doing laundry here.

A good washer/dryer combo can be had for around $1000. Each laundry room would run upwards of $8000 estimated. On the high end, $20k for the whole community. I know I'm just throwing out numbers here, but it can't be any worse than the current situation.

Since we aren't getting garages...

The "Anonymous" post above must work for Pepe's.... However, I agree if people park in the handicap spot wihtout a proper permit they should be towed right away. But this is simply not the case. I've been to other complex's and the complaints are the same. They are outrageous with their fee's, they've been known to Tow cars without reason.

Search Orange County Blogs. They are KNOWN to have a horrible reputation.

This is for the first Anonymous poster,

If you're so hard up on towing cars from the handicap parking then why haven't those golf carts been towed from the facility? They are in a handicap parking spot, have them towed as well. Do we even need those handicap spots? I think they should be converted to regular parking spots?

with regard to the golf carts in the handicapped spot near the maintenance building, we should ask the "converter" to move them, or at the very least ask them for a time frame when we could expect them to be moved. I have been to every board meeting since November of 2006 and this has never been brought up as an issue. we shoudl bring it up & give them a fair chance to rectify th situation. they did tell us the the large dumpster would be gone by the end of February and it was. Granted they have been less reliable on other issues.

Gman - your idea about using HOA funds to purchase washers and dryers for the community is intrguing but I have a few questions/comments.

1) Is your estimate of $1000 for a good washer/dryer combo for an industrial washer/dryer or one intended for home use? If the latter, would one intended for home use hold up to the heavy usage of a community of 272 units?

2) Because people can and do prop open the doors to the laundry rooms, some sort of swipe card for the machines would probably be more effective in keeping the use of the machines just for Monterey Villas residents than a lock on the door.

3) If the community owns the machines, who would service them if/when they break down? How much would a service contract like that cost?

4) Lastly, we still have the issue of being under contract with CoinMach for the next two years. Would we have to buy them out of the contract? How much would that cost?

I think calling coim mach might be the best thing. My wife got taken for a buck when she put money and got no water. We submitted a complaint and got a response that the location was unknown. I am personally very tired of them.

As for the golf carts, I bugged Charity for a while about that before. I also bugged about the junk they had there (pallets and old car battery). The junk got cleaned up, but the carts just got pushed over. Like most other things, I don't think the converter will do anything about it.

Hi, I posted this in a previous laundry posting, but thought I'd try to be more helpful. I think this could really be a good idea:

http://www.allvalleywasher.com/smart.html

I'm not sure if they would be the specific company to choose, but I'm sure that there are plenty of laundry services that implement the smart card system.

It'll keep out those who should not be using them, reducing wear and tear, thereby increasing the unit's life.

Pumpkin, I was just tossing around the idea of new washer/dryers. I was being semi-sarcastic with it until I realized that it's probably better than what we have. Unfortunately I have no real answers to your questions. Sorry.

Why don't we ask the converters to install washer / dryer hookups in all the units... HAHAH, now I'm really asking for it. (i'm kidding by the way)

But seriously, those golf karts have to go. Also, there is a wooden fenced in area by where that large dumpster used to be. Near building M. Inside this fenced in area there is just junk and garbage that was used by the construction crews. Can we possibly have this torn down and cleaned up. This will allow for one more parking space! I know it's only one, but every bit helps.

I say we hit those carts and the junk fence at the same time. My wife has seen bums hanging out near that fence, I'm guessing they're using it for shelter.

Tuesday afternoon 5:30pm. I was just in the laundry room by the mailboxes. All of the post it notes were removed. Was coinmach here? Are they fixed? Can anyone shed some light on this please.

Also, the pad and pen I left in there is also gone...

I agree with removing the fence area. I don't believe it serves any purpose anymore.

Has anyone been able to install their own washer and dryer in their unit?

amyr said...

No, you can't exactly install a washer and dryer. The issue is 220 power and venting. But there are "portable" European-style combination washer/ dryer which run off regular 110 and do not require venting. LG, Haier, Thor, all make one, and the one they showed in the sales office (and the same one I also purchased) was from Malber. They do smaller loads than a regular machine but living here your household is probably 1-2 people. I think it's nice to not have to hoard quarters and drag your dirty clothes to the laundry room.

amyr,

Could you please provide more info on the combo you bought? Price? Where to buy? I'm really interested in it.

actually, i do not work for the towing company. i have a lot of family members who have spina bifida and require a handicap spot so when one is taken, without a permit, i call it in to have it towed.

any tow company is going to have a fee, its what makes you not want to park there again. they are better then the old tow and mo from my old complex in costa mesa, who damaged my car.

also, has anyone else noticed the hot tub heater has not been working for a week? i wonder if it has been reported yet.

The management co is aware the pump on the spa is out & the pool guy has a new one on order. some things take time, but wondering whether or not it has been reported does no good, take some ownership & report it yourself.

It would be nice if the converter would let us know that they are going to take up about 6 parking spots. I'd also like to know how long they plan to have the rock pile out there. If history has taught us anything, that pile is just inviting vandalism. Having already had pant poured on my ca, I am very nervous with my parking space just 50 feet from this pile. I think placing the rocks should be fast and simple.

Cyrus,

The washer/dryer combo is a Malber WD1000, and I purchased it from Universal Appliance. Here's a link:

http://www.universal-akb.com/24mawacowd.html

It was around $1000 after shipping, tax, etc. So it is not perfect, it does smaller loads than normal so I have become accustomed to doing a load a day or so. Also the thing didn't work right out of the box - whether it was damage during shipping or maybe the Italian engineering, I had to replace the mother board right away. What else... it uses HE (high efficiency) soap. It doesn't use a lot of power or water, even though while it's on the drying cycle you leave the cold water on so the condenser works. (Weird, I know). It is called portable, you can put casters on it to wheel it around, but at 200 pounds it's not easy for me to move. I have it set up in front of the bathroom vanity, hooked up to the bathroom sink for water and to drain. If I remember right the height of the kitchen counter was too tall for it to work there. The hose length and overall distance have a max for it to work properly.

So even with some quirks I think it's preferable to using the laundry room with all those broken machines. Plus no quarters.

Hope this helps!

Amyr,

Thanks for the info, I'm not ready to go out and get one yet, but if our current laundry situation doesn't get better I just might do it.
